What is HO-6 insurance?

HO-6 insurance is a condo owner's policy covering what the association's master policy doesn't, such as the unit's interior, belongings and liability.

A condominium association carries a master policy on the building and common areas. How much of each unit it covers varies: some master policies cover only the bare structure, others include fixtures and improvements inside units. The owner's HO-6 policy fills the gap.

An HO-6 policy typically covers interior walls, fixtures and improvements (depending on the master policy), personal property, personal liability, loss of use, and loss assessment coverage, which helps pay an owner's share of a special assessment after a covered loss to common property.

Many associations require owners to carry HO-6 coverage and to provide proof of it each year.
