PropPay Pay links

Rent payment links
your tenants just tap.

Every PropPay tenant gets a private pay link. It shows what they owe and lets them pay rent by bank transfer or credit card, with no account, password or app. The payment goes to the landlord's own Stripe account and is paid out to the landlord's bank, and both sides get an email when it goes through.

  • No tenant account
  • Bank or credit card
  • Fee shown before paying

Example PropPay pay page: November rent of $1,500 to Maple Street Rentals, paid by bank account with an $8.50 service fee for a total of $1,508.50, with autopay offered.

02 / Bank or card

How do tenants pay rent online with PropPay?

By bank transfer. The tenant connects their bank on Stripe's secure checkout and pays. Bank payments take a few business days to clear; PropPay shows them as clearing until they do. The fee is PropPay's service fee of 0.5% + $1, never more than $10 (on rent under about $1,000 a small bank transfer fee is added to cover the processor). By default the tenant pays it; you can choose to cover it instead.

By credit card. The tenant pays with a credit card, and pays the service fee plus a card fee of 2.9% and 30¢, capped at 3% of the rent. Cards are off until you turn them on in Settings. When tenants pay the fees, cards need rent of $100 or more and aren't offered in states that don't allow card surcharges. Debit cards are refused.

You always receive the full rentWhen the tenant pays the fee, PropPay works out the total so that what's left after every fee is exactly the rent. On $1,500 rent that's $1,508.50 by bank or $1,553.50 by credit card.

FAQ

Payment questions

From the blog: ACH vs card rent payments

Can tenants pay rent by credit card with PropPay?+

Yes. Tenants can pay by credit card from their pay link, once the landlord turns cards on. By default the service fee and a card fee of 2.9% and 30 cents, capped at 3% of the rent, are added to their payment, so the landlord still receives the full rent. Card payments then need rent of $100 or more. Debit cards are not accepted.

How long does a PropPay bank payment take?+

A bank transfer usually takes a few business days to clear. PropPay shows the payment as clearing in the meantime, then as paid once it settles, and Stripe pays it out to the landlord's bank.

Who pays the PropPay fees?+

The tenant, by default: PropPay adds the service fee (0.5% + $1, at most $10), and on cards the card fee, to the payment. In Settings the landlord can choose to cover the fees instead, for bank and card alike, and the tenant then pays exactly the rent.

Can a tenant pay part of the rent in PropPay?+

No. A PropPay pay link takes the full month's rent. If a tenant pays part another way, the landlord can mark the month paid once the rest arrives.

Does PropPay hold my rent money?+

No. Each payment is a direct charge on the landlord's own Stripe account, and Stripe pays it out to the landlord's bank. PropPay's share of the fee is taken as a fee on the charge.
