Context

Why do small firms look for a TaxDome alternative?

Usually for one of three reasons: the price model doesn’t fit, the firm wants to pay monthly, or TaxDome does more than the firm needs. TaxDome is a broad platform, with a client app, secure chat, unlimited e-signatures, proposals, payments and tax-software integrations, and for many firms it is the right choice.

TaxDome changed its published pricing in 2026. Its pricing page now shows one plan priced per active client (a client with any activity in the past 12 months), starting at 150 active clients for $1,500 a year, with 20 seats included and annual billing paid upfront. It lists, for example, $4,125 a year for 400 active clients and $9,000 for 1,000. There is no monthly or multi-year option, and current customers move to the new pricing at their first renewal on or after January 1.

That model is good value for a small team with fewer than about 150 active clients. It costs more as your client list grows, and it requires a year paid upfront. If either is a problem, the tools below are priced differently: per user, per firm, or by client band.

Note. Our older PraxiOS vs TaxDome comparison was checked on October 26, 2026, before TaxDome’s pricing page changed. The TaxDome figures on this page are the current ones.

The alternatives

What does each TaxDome alternative offer?

Who each one suits, what it costs, what stands out and where it falls short, using only what each company publishes.

01 / PraxiOSMade by DomoDomu

PraxiOS: flat per-firm pricing and a portal that sorts uploads

Suits a 2–50 person firm whose biggest job is chasing and sorting client documents, and which wants one predictable price it can pay monthly.

  • Price: $299/mo for up to 5 users, $699 for up to 15, $1,499 for up to 50. Annual billing on request costs the same as 10 months. Unlimited clients.
  • Trial: 14 days, no card needed.
  • Standout: clients use an expiring link instead of an account, and each upload is read with OCR (optical character recognition) and matched to the right checklist item. Every feature is on every plan.
  • Drawbacks: no e-signatures, payment processing, integrations or public API, inbox integration or native mobile apps. Costs more than per-user tools for a solo practitioner or a 2–3 person team.
02 / Karbon

Karbon: email-centric workflow for collaborative teams

Suits firms that live in their inbox and want email, work and client requests in one place, with a broad set of integrations.

  • Price: Team $59/user/mo paid annually or $79 monthly; Business $89 annually or $99 monthly. Monthly billing only for teams of 4 or more. Team allows 1,000 contacts.
  • Trial: not stated on its pricing page; it offers demos.
  • Standout: integrated email and inbox triage, billing and payments, engagements with branded letters, web, iOS and Android apps, and integrations such as QuickBooks Online and Xero, plus an API.
  • Drawbacks: e-signatures are sold as credit bundles (100 credits for $100). Automatic client reminders and task automation start on Business.
03 / Canopy

Canopy: an all-in-one platform built around tax work

Suits tax-focused firms, especially those doing IRS transcript work or tax resolution, that want modules they can add as they grow.

  • Price: Standard $74/user/mo, Plus $109, Premium $149 (marked coming soon), all billed annually. Monthly prices not published.
  • Trial: length not published; set up by booking a demo.
  • Standout: e-signatures, client portal with secure messaging, invoicing with card and ACH payments, and practitioner and client mobile apps on Standard.
  • Drawbacks: paid add-ons and usage credits, for example Tax Resolution at $50/user/mo and KBA (knowledge-based authentication) at $1.25 a credit. Payment fees are 3.30% + $0.20 for cards and 1% (max $10) for ACH.
04 / Financial Cents

Financial Cents: affordable all-rounder for bookkeepers

Suits bookkeeping firms and small tax practices that want workflow, a client portal, billing and proposals at a low per-user price.

  • Price: Solo $19/mo (one user only); Team $49/user/mo and Scale $69/user/mo billed annually, or $69 and $89 billed monthly. Every plan is a 12-month agreement.
  • Trial: 14 days, no card needed.
  • Standout: every plan includes a client portal, client tasks, time tracking, invoicing with online payments, proposals and engagement letters, e-signatures and a QuickBooks Online integration.
  • Drawbacks: monthly billing on Team and Scale needs at least 5 users. Integrated email starts on Team; Zapier, the open API and tax-software integrations start on Scale.
05 / Jetpack Workflow

Jetpack Workflow: simple deadline and workflow tracking

Suits firms that already handle client communication and billing elsewhere and only need recurring work, deadlines and capacity in one place.

  • Price: Starter $40/user/mo billed annually or $49 monthly; Premium $50 annually or $59 monthly; Enterprise custom.
  • Trial: a free trial is offered; its length isn’t stated on the pricing page.
  • Standout: unlimited projects, clients and templates on Starter; time tracking, budget-vs-actual reports and capacity planning on Premium.
  • Drawbacks: no billing or invoicing, and no client portal listed on its pricing page. Document storage is $5 per 100GB, and a setup and training package is $1,500.
06 / Ignition

Ignition: proposals, engagement letters and billing

Suits firms whose pain is getting engagements signed and getting paid. It is usually paired with a workflow tool rather than used instead of one.

  • Price: Core $99/mo billed annually or $149 monthly (3 users, 50 active clients, +$5 per extra client); Pro $229 annually or $279 monthly (15 users, 350 clients); Pro+ $399 or $499 (20 users, 600 clients). Solo from $39/mo.
  • Trial: 14 days, no card needed.
  • Standout: proposals, engagement letters, automatic billing and payment collection on agreed terms, with integrations such as Karbon on Pro and above.
  • Drawbacks: no work board or deadline tracking of the kind TaxDome has. Payment processing fees apply, and add-ons such as the deals pipeline cost $49/mo each.
07 / Liscio

Liscio: client documents, messaging and e-signatures

Suits firms whose main problem is collecting, naming and filing client documents, especially those leaving a desktop file cabinet.

  • Price: File Intelligence $19/user/mo and Liscio Platform $49/user/mo, billed annually; Tax Enterprise custom. Monthly billing on request, rates not published.
  • Trial: none; it offers a tailored demo instead.
  • Standout: automatic reading, classification and naming of incoming files, plus email integration, client requests, organizers and e-signatures on Platform.
  • Drawbacks: organizers and deliveries are priced per use ($4–$7 each), and KBA is $2 per signer. It isn’t a full work-management or billing tool.

Why aren’t other tools here?

We kept the list to tools a 1–20 person US firm is likely to compare with TaxDome and whose pricing we could check on November 3, 2026. Document-storage tools such as SmartVault and enterprise suites aimed at large firms were left out because they replace only part of what TaxDome does.

Cost example

What would a 5-person firm pay per year?

Published list prices for a year, paid annually, before taxes, add-ons and payment-processing fees. The plans don’t include the same features, so read this with the table above.

Yearly cost for a 5-person firm on each product’s published annual price, checked November 3, 2026
Product and planPer yearHow it’s worked out
TaxDome$1,500 to $4,125$1,500 up to 150 active clients; $4,125 at 400 (TaxDome’s own example)

Ignition Pro$2,74812 × $229; Core allows only 3 users
Financial Cents Team$2,9405 × $49 × 12

For a small firm with fewer than about 150 active clients, TaxDome’s new pricing is the lowest on this list, with 20 seats included. Per-user tools get dearer as you add staff; TaxDome gets dearer as you add clients; PraxiOS stays flat within each team-size band. Work out your own numbers with your real headcount and client count.

How to choose

How do you choose the right TaxDome alternative?

Start from the job you most need done, then check how the price behaves as your firm grows.

  1. STEP 01

    Name the bottleneck

Chasing documents points to PraxiOS or Liscio. Missed deadlines point to Jetpack Workflow or Financial Cents. Unsigned engagements and late payments point to Ignition. Email overload points to Karbon.

  2. STEP 02

    Count users and clients

Per-user prices scale with headcount, TaxDome with active clients, Ignition with client bands, and PraxiOS with team-size bands. Price each at your size today and in two years.

  3. STEP 03

    List must-haves

E-signatures, payment processing, tax-software integrations and client mobile apps rule some tools out. PraxiOS has none of the four, and Jetpack Workflow’s pricing page lists none.

  4. STEP 04

    Check the terms

Annual-only billing, 12-month agreements and add-on credits change the real cost. Trial it with one real client before you move everyone.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the best TaxDome alternative for a small firm?+

It depends on what you need TaxDome to do. Karbon, Canopy and Financial Cents are the closest all-round replacements, with client portals, billing and e-signatures. Jetpack Workflow covers workflow only, Ignition covers proposals and billing, Liscio covers client documents, and PraxiOS covers document collection, a work board and invoicing at one flat price per firm.

Is there a cheaper alternative to TaxDome?+

Not always. On TaxDome’s pricing published in November 2026, a firm with up to 150 active clients pays $1,500 a year with 20 seats included, which is less than any per-user tool for a 5-person team. Alternatives become cheaper when you have many more active clients, a very small team, or need monthly billing instead of paying a year upfront.

Which TaxDome alternatives can be paid monthly?+

PraxiOS can be paid monthly on every plan. Karbon offers monthly billing for teams of 4 or more, Jetpack Workflow and Ignition publish monthly prices, and Financial Cents bills Team and Scale monthly for 5 or more users under a 12-month agreement. Canopy and Liscio publish annual prices only, and TaxDome bills annually upfront.

Who makes PraxiOS, and is this list biased?+

DomoDomu makes PraxiOS, so we have an interest in it. To keep the list useful, every competitor’s details come from its own public pricing pages, checked on November 3, 2026 and linked below, and each entry says where that product does more than PraxiOS.

Can I move my clients from TaxDome to another tool?+

Yes. Most tools import a client list from a CSV (spreadsheet) export. PraxiOS has the column mapping for a TaxDome CSV export built in, and work in progress is set up by hand. Before switching, check your TaxDome renewal date, since TaxDome bills a year upfront.
